FROME EVENT | Tortoises, Hedgehogs and How Animals Heal Us: An Evening with Gareth Howell-Jones & Jay Griffiths
Friday 7th November, 7.30pm at The Archangel (Naval Room), Frome
Join us for an intimate, magical, and lighthearted evening, exploring the healing and contemplative power of nature in our everyday lives.
Jay Griffiths explores how animals can have a role in every level of healing, from the individual to the collective, guiding us in how we might create societies that are healthier, fairer and kinder. How Animals Heal Us puts animals at the heart of a restorative vision of health.
In Your Lowly Hedgehog Knows, Gareth Howell-Jones looks at the simple, everyday things around us - trees, woodlice, cats, people and, of course, hedgehogs - to develop a radical and heartening world-view based on nature rather than cultural traditions.
Together, they reimagine our place in nature with wonder, hope and a lot of humour.
Jay Griffiths is the author of many books including Wild: An Elemental Journey and Why Rebel. She has won the 'Discover' award and the Orion book prize and has written for Radiohead and the Royal Shakespeare Company. The incomparable John Berger says of Jay, 'If bravery itself could write, it would write like she does.'
Gareth Howell-Jones is a writer and garden designer. His wonderful books Do Not Call the Tortoise and Your Lowly Hedgehog Knows are cult indie bookshop bestsellers, described by Katherine May (Wintering) as 'Stunning. Full of revelatory beauty.' Oh, and he also happens to run the official bookshop at the Hay Festival.
